The name isn't fancy; it's where we began. I'm Mark, and Forrest Workshop started in 2005 out of my two-car garage on Forrest Avenue in Maplewood, California.
I had spent over ten years working for big construction firms, building everything from basic houses to custom estates. The problem was, everyone rushed the finish line. The general contractor just wanted the job closed, so they'd always pressure the crew to speed through the fine details—the trim, the cabinets, the flooring. I got sick of seeing great materials get installed sloppily.
In the end, I decided to focus only on the final product: high-end finish work. I quit my job, bought a new saw, and started Forrest Workshop to prove that you could run a carpentry business built on precision, not speed. We've since moved out of that garage, but the rule remains the same: If it's a detail you look at every day, it has to be perfect.
